Je nachdem, ob es sich um die Gewalt der Spieler, von Funktionären oder eben Fans und Hooligans handelt, legt man eine unterschiedliche Meßlatte der Toleranz an.
Im Einzelnen:
Die Gewalt der Sportler wird verniedlicht als die Gewalt der „Cleveren“, der „Schlitzohren. Sie wird verharmlost und heruntergespielt oder nur vordergründig im Sinne einer öffentlich propagierten „Umweltmoral“ (Bette 1999) bzw. „Moral der öffentlichen Lippenbekenntnisse“ (Lenk 1988) bekämpft.
Die Gewalt der Fans, der Hooligans wird dämonisiert, kriminalisiert und dramatisiert als die Gewalt von „kriminellen Gewalttätern“ und als die Gewalt von „Chaoten“. Diese Gruppe hätte mit dem Sport an sich nichts zu tun und würde „unseren geliebten Sport“ kaputt machen.
Das allerdings diese Art der Gewalt mit der ersten Art sehr viel gemeinsam hat, wird leider immer wieder übersehen oder einfach ignoriert, oftmals auch einfach geleugnet.
In der folgenden Arbeit möchten wir diese These in Form einer interpretierten Collage von Fallbeispielen ein wenig detaillierter darlegen.

Dabei werden wir nach einem kurzen geschichtlichen Ausflug in den Zivilisationsprozess einen soziologischen Exkurs über die Bedeutung des Er- und Auslebens von Emotionen und Motivationen im Altertum und in modernen Industriegesellschaften machen. Wir untersuchen die Wandlungen im Fußballsport anhand einiger Fallbeispiele aus dem Bereich der Hooliganproblematik. Schließlich werden unsere Ausführungen mit einer sozialkritischen Klammer umschlossen und Fragen nach möglichen Konsequenzen diskutiert.
