Psychische Erkrankungen sind für den einzelnen Betroffenen ein großes Problem. Auch aus Sicht der Betriebe ist der Schaden enorm. Angesichts der steigenden psychischen Belastungen in der Arbeitswelt, nimmt gleichzeitig der Anteil psychischer Störungen an den Arbeitsunfähigkeitsdiagnosen kontinuierlich zu. Psychische Erkrankungen sind mittlerweile der häufigste Grund für krankheitsbedingte Frühberentungen. Doch psychische Belastungen müssen nicht automatisch und zwangsläufig zu Burn-out oder Depression führen. Um dies zu verhindert, ist zunächst einmal Wissen über die Entwicklung psychischer Belastungsfaktoren unerlässlich. Erst dann lassen sich Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten für die betriebliche Praxis erfolgsversprechend realisieren. Zentrale Elemente finden sich in der Stärkung der Ressourcen, Veränderungen der Arbeitsorganisation und die Gestaltung einer gesundheitsfördernden Unternehmenskultur. Dabei spielt der Präventionsgedanke eine wichtige Rolle. Die vorliegenden Hausarbeit, welche im Rahmen des Masterfernstudiums „Personalentwicklung“ an der TU Kaiserslautern angefertigt wurde, beschäftigt sich mit den Herausforderungen an das Personalmanagement und die Personalentwicklung durch das „Burnout-Syndrom“ angesichts der sich vollziehenden oder drohenden gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen. Es geht um die Beantwortung der Frage, welche Aufgaben der Personalentwicklung zukommen, um auf die aktuellen und zukünftigen gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen sowohl mitarbeiter- als auch unternehmensorientiert zu reagieren. Dafür soll zunächst der Begriff „Burnout“ hinsichtlich seiner Ursachen, Symptome und Folgen erörtert werden. Anschließend wird in einem eigenen Kapitel das Instrument des Betrieblichen Gesundheitsmanagements, welches besonders im Zusammenhang mit Burnout-Prävention von zentraler Bedeutung ist, eingehend behandelt. Das letzte Kapitel konzentriert sich auf die Beschreibung von Maßnahmen zur Gestaltung einer gesunden Unternehmenskultur und Arbeitsumgebung als zentrale Aufgabe einer Personalentwicklung des 21. Jahrhundert. Dabei erfolgt auch die Einordnung der Hausarbeit in das Modul „Arbeitsorganisation“ mit dem Schwerpunkt auf sich wandelnde Arbeitsstrukturen.
