Während die Zugehörigkeit zu einer Gruppe oder Gemeinschaft früher das Überleben sichern konnte, steckt heute mehr ein Identifikationsgedanke dahinter. Unverändert ist jedoch, dass man auf Feedback der Gemeinschaft angewiesen ist, will man darin nicht nur aufgenommen sein, sondern sich auch noch positiv positionieren.
Allerdings – und auch das kennen wir aus dem privaten Leben – ist der Mensch mit direktem Feedback vielfach eher zurückhaltend. Lob wird viel zu wenig ausgesprochen. Tadel wird zwecks Konfliktvermeidung auch nicht gerne angebracht. Dadurch ergibt sich nach der Theorie der bekannten Sozialpsychologen Luft/Ingham bei jedem Menschen ein so genannter persönlicher „Blinder Fleck“ zwischen dem, was man selbst weiß und wahrnimmt, und jenem, wie einen Dritte wahrnehmen. Je größer der blinde Fleck ist, desto stärker steigt die Gefahr von Missverständnissen, Vorurteilen und Abneigung.
Aber nicht nur im privaten Umfeld, sondern auch in der Geschäftswelt kommen solche Mechanismen zum Tragen. Hohe Popularität, gutes Ankommen bei einer breiten Masse und positive Assoziationen zu einem Produkt oder einer Marke haben einen starken Einfluss auf den Geschäftserfolg. Übergeht man als Unternehmen Wünsche und Bedürfnisse von Kunden und potenziellen Käufern, kann dies im Gegenzug genauso ins Negative umschlagen.
Zu wissen und zu verstehen, wie eine gesendete Botschaft vom Empfänger aufgenommen wird, ist daher nicht nur aus sozialen, sondern auch aus geschäftlichen Gründen äußerst relevant. Entscheidend für das Verhältnis der Wahrnehmung einer Botschaft ist die Distanz und das eingesetzte Medium zwischen Sender und Empfänger. Man muss es nur zu nutzen wissen [Hassler, M. 2010].

2.Problemstellung
Die Schwierigkeit ist und bleibt, den Empfänger zu verstehen ohne dass er sich äußert und ohne ihn physisch vor sich zu sehen. Die Kommunikation erfolgt also durch reines Beobachten. Nicht durch die Person selbst, da man weder Mimik, Gesten oder Körpersprache erkennt.
