Dieses Thema bezieht sich nicht nur auf linguistische Fachkreise, sondern auch auf den Sprachgebrauch der Öffentlichkeit. Spätestens seit den 1970er Jahren stellt sich die Frage, ob die deutsche Sprache „frauenfeindlich“ ist.
Nach einem historischen Überblick über die feministische Sprachwissenschaft soll herausgestellt werden, was genau an der Sprache und ihrem Gebrauch kritisiert wird. Anschließend werden Möglichkeiten zur Vermeidung sexistischen Sprachgebrauchs analysiert. Gibt es hier wirklich keine Diskriminierung mehr?
Die eigene Sprache zu reflektieren ist eine wichtige Kompetenz, um Sprachbewusstsein zu erlangen. So soll im zweiten Teil der Arbeit, die didaktische Komponente des Themas betrachtet werden. Es wird herausgestellt, wie der Schulunterricht der Sekundarstufe II die Aspekte der feministischen Sprachkritik aufgreift. Zum einen bezieht sich dies auf die feministische Linguistik als Unterrichtsthema. Zum anderen soll die Diskussion um den koedukativen Unterricht in seiner Entwicklung ab Mitte der 1950er Jahre beschrieben und vor dem Hintergrund der feministischen Sprachwissenschaft als Unterrichtsform diskutiert werden. Es wird schwerpunktmäßig darum gehen, welche Möglichkeiten und Schwierigkeiten diese Form des Unterrichtens stellt.
