Mein Vater hat sich in der Mehrzahl seiner Romane mit zeitgeschichtlichen und gesellschaftsrelevanten Problemen auseinandergesetzt. Er sagte immer: »Es wird so viel unter den Teppich gekehrt, meistens sind die Meldungen der Tagespresse am nächsten Tag schon wieder vergessen. Ich kann in einem Roman die ganze Breitenwirkung dieser Probleme viel besser verpacken, sodass sie ins Bewusstsein der Menschen eindringen.« Wie mit dem Roman Das Regenwald-Komplott, in dem skrupellose Geschäftemacher ohne Rücksicht auf die indianischen Ureinwohner und die drohende Klimakatastrophe den Regenwald abholzen. Das Ausmaß der Zerstörung tropischer Regenwälder ist trotz weltweiter Aufrufe und Maßnahmenkataloge von Umweltschützern immer noch gigantisch. Mein Vater hat mehrfach das Amazonasgebiet bereist und vor Ort gesehen, was der Mensch diesem wilden Paradies antut. Daraus entstanden ist ein typischer Konsalik: keine trockenen Thesen, sondern fesselnde Handlung mit Menschen in Bewährungssituationen. Ich durfte bei einer der Recherchereisen dabei sein, mit einem der ersten Kreuzfahrtschiffe, die den Amazonas bis nach Manaus hochfuhren. Bei den Expeditionen in die kleinen Seitenflüsse des Rio Negro mit kleinen Indiobooten streikte meine Mutter wegen der Piranhas im Wasser und so entdeckte ich gemeinsam mit meinem Vater die fantastische Vegetation und Tierwelt des Dschungels. Die saunamäßigen Temperaturen und körperlichen Strapazen machten meinem Vater nichts aus. Beladen mit seinen schweren Kameras war er komplett versunken in die Aufnahme all dieser Eindrücke.
