sujet est traité dans l’école et aussi à l’université. Pratiquement chacun a déjà
entendu parler du romantisme et il y a aussi beaucoup d’oeuvres et d’auteurs connus
de cette époque. Mais comment les contemporains du romantisme ont-ils vu
l’histoire? Et comment se sont-ils comportés envers le passé de leur nation? Était-il
plutôt question de voir l’histoire comme science objectif ou pourrait-on en discuter
subjectivement? Ce sont les questions de ce mémoire, qui sont traitées avant de
regarder le changement de la philosophie de la science historique qui avait lieu à
l'époque du romantisme.
2. a) Problème du terme « époque » et les conséquences pour le travail avec ce
terme
Pour définir ce qu'on peut regarder comme « époque », il faut savoir que ce terme
n'existe pas seulement par rapport à la littérature, mais aussi par rapport à l'histoire.
Avec son aide, on essaie de répartir en gros le temps afin de pouvoir classer des
événements respectivement des textes dans leurs contextes. Pour rendre possible
ce classement, on observe d'abord des signes caractéristiques communs de
plusieurs textes, puis, on les met en rapport avec des événements typiques pour leur
temps d'apparition. Le problème en est que les époques ne sont considérées en tant
que telles qu'après coup, ce qui veut dire que les auteurs d'une certaine époque
n'ont pas forcément l'impression de se trouver dans la même1 C'est pourquoi
l'historiographie ne peut s'orienter principalement qu'aux interprétations des gens
ayant vécu après une certaine époque. Pour la même raison, il faut que ce mémoire
soit adapté aux résultats scientifiques étant faits après le romantisme-même.
2. b) Qu'est-ce que l'historiographie?
L'historiographie est une partie de la discipline scientifique de l'histoire. Elle a comme
but de faire visible l'histoire. Afin d'attirer ce but, elle se sert des procès, des
personnes et des états actuels d'un certain temps. La base en est l'image de
l'histoire qui prédomine et la conscience du présent.
