Bezeichnungen aufgrund von Ähnlichkeiten der äußeren Gestalt, der Funktion und Verwendung
durch impliziten Vergleich bzw. Ineinanderfließen der Vorstellungen. Beispiele
geben „der Löwe Achill“ oder „der Gesang der Wellen“ (vgl. Lewandowski. Linguistisches
Wörterbuch 1990).
Wir kennen die Metapher aus dem Schulunterreicht als Ornament zur Verzierung von
Sprache. Metaphern sind jedoch nicht nur in der poetischen Sprache, sondern auch in
der Alltagssprache und in allen anderen Formen von Sprache zu finden. Keith Basso
(Professor für Linguistik an der Universität Arizona) beschäftigt sich in seinem Aufsatz mit Metaphern in der Alltagssprache von Apachen in Nordamerika. Er verfolgt das Ziel,
die Funktion von Metaphern in einem kulturellen System zu verdeutlichen. Um das Verstehen
der Bedeutung von Metaphern zu erleichtern, erstellt er Richtlinien zu deren Interpretation.
Ähnlich beleuchtet George Lakoff (Professor für Literatur an der Universität
Californien, Berkeley) Metaphern der Moral in der alltäglichen Sprache. Lakoff konzentriert
sich dabei jedoch weitestgehend auf metaphorische Modelle im sozialen und politischen
Denken der amerikanischen Gesellschaft. Als Grundlage stellt er das Modell der
‚Finanziellen Transaktion’ vor, welches er auf das allgemeine Modell der Moral überträgt.
Der Begriff der Metapher soll hier in Hinsicht auf metaphorische Modelle der Moral
untersucht werden. Untersuchungen der beiden genannten Autoren werden bezüglich
dieser Themenstellung herangezogen. Anschießend werden einige Überlegungen zur
Bedeutung und zur Funktion von Metaphern in der Gesellschaft ausgeführt.
