Bei der Untersuchung regionaler, nationaler und internationaler Besonderheiten versuche ich zu zeigen, dass Sprache nicht einfach nur Verständigungsmittel ist, sondern einen Kontext von ideologischen und ökonomischen Fragen einschließt. Sowohl auf regionaler1, auf nationaler2 als auch auf internationaler Ebene3 gab und gibt es gibt es private wie institutionelle, teilweise staatlich geförderte Maßnahmen (von Vereinen, Gesellschaften etc.), die darauf ausgerichtet sind, eine bestehende Sprache zu stärken oder aber Sprache zu vereinheitlichen.
Die unterschiedlichen Interessen, die dabei eine Rolle spielen, die Mechanismen die dabei greifen und die Vor- und Nachteile, die hierbei für die Beteiligten (als private Individuen, als ethnische oder nationale Gruppen oder einfach als - beispielsweise wirtschaftliche - Zweckgemeinschaften) entstehen, sollen dabei beleuchtet werden.
