Egal ob in Beziehungen, im Eheleben, im familiären Umfeld, im Freundeskreis, im Berufsleben, auf dem Schulhof oder im Schulsport, kann dort aggressives und gewalttätiges Potenzial vorhanden sein beziehungsweise entstehen. Sogar zwischen ganzen Systemen oder vereinzelten Ländern findet Gewalt aktiv statt, wenn wir einen Rückblick auf die Weltkriege werfen. Massenmedien, wie etwa der Fernseher, senden oft gewaltverherrlichende Filme und in den Nachrichten werden jeden Tag schreckliche Gewalttaten emotionslos präsentiert. Gewalttätige und pornografische Kurzfilme werden per Knopfdruck am Handy zum Belustigen und Schockieren an den Freund versendet. Diskussionen über die Zensur des Internets und gewaltverherrlichender Computerspiele nehmen zu, die auf der einen Seite logisch erscheinen, auf der anderen aber die Freiheiten des Menschen einschränken. Steigende Arbeitslosigkeit und wachsende Armut scheinen die Hemmschwelle der Gewalt tiefer zu legen und die Gewaltbereitschaft und Beschaffungskriminalität zu erhöhen. Man erkennt, dass das Thema Gewalt mit seinen Ursachen und Wirkungen ein komplexes Gebiet ist, welches politisches und soziales Engagement benötigt.
