Die Anforderungen innerhalb der Familie wie im Berufsleben sind hoch, manchmal zu hoch. Stressbewältigungsstrategien gibt es reichlich, sie helfen uns, ob angeboren oder gelernt, mit Stress umzugehen (vgl. Kapitel 3.0).
Es kommen aber auch Situationen vor, die unsere Belastungsgrenze übersteigen, dann wird der Stress in Form von Befindlichkeitsstörungen sichtbar (vgl. Kapitel 3.0).
Was ist nun Stress?
Allgemeingültig erscheint die Definition, dass Stressoren auf einen Organismus einwirken und in diesem eine Reaktion hervorrufen, die Stress heißt (vgl. Kapitel 2.0).
Selye forschte auf diesem Gebiet und entwarf sein Stressmodell (Abb. 1, S.6), jedoch erläuterte er ausschließlich physiologische Zusammenhänge und bezog den Menschen als „denkendes, reflektives Wesen“ nicht mit ein.
Lazarus Modell der Stressreaktion erscheint vielschichtiger und besser übertragbar auf den alltäglichen Umgang mit Stresssituationen. Er prägt den Begriff „transaktionales Erklärungsmodell“ (vgl. Kapitel 2.1).
Das Berufsleben steht in direktem Zusammenhang mit Anforderung und Leistungserbringung, in ihm lassen sich Stressfaktoren gut untersuchen (vgl. Kapitel 2.1).
In der Betrachtung der im Beruf auftretenden allgemeinen Stressfaktoren vermag man leicht, auch für das persönliche Berufsfeld „Seefahrt“ eine Bewertung über die Anzahl der „kritischen Bereiche“ vorzunehmen (vgl. Kapitel 2.2). Doch ist Stress nicht ausschließlich der Seefahrt vorbehalten.
Stress ist ein allgemeines Problem, er mindert Leistungsfähigkeit, schafft Unzufriedenheit, steuert zur Bildung von Krankheiten bei, das „Burnout- Syndrom“ ist hier das Stichwort (vgl. Kapitel 4.0).
Um dies zu vermeiden, haben Stressforscher einen Beitrag zum Thema „Personalpflege“ geleistet. Stressvermeidungsstrategien am Arbeitsplatz dienen nicht nur dem Mitarbeiter, sondern dem ganzen Betrieb.
Der Mensch ist nicht ausschließlich eine Ressource, er ist für die Produktivität eines Unternehmens mit verantwortlich (vgl. Kapitel 3.1).
