In diesem Buch der Zauberland-Reihe geht es um das Rosa Land, in dem freundlich und klug die gute Fee Stella herrscht. Doch gerade die Güte wird ihr zum Verhängnis, denn Mark, ein gemeiner Betrüger, schmeichelt sich bei ihr ein, um an ihre Zauberbücher zu kommen. Nachdem er bereits den misstrauischen Hengst Eschno ausgeschaltet hat, gelingt es ihm, Stellas Gestalt anzunehmen und sich an ihre Stelle zu setzen.
Der Scheuch und seine Freunde, die anlässlich einer großen Feier ins Rosa Reich gekommen sind, schöpfen zunächst keinen Verdacht. Nach und nach begreifen sie aber, dass hier etwas nicht stimmt, und beginnen Fragen zu stellen. Doch Mark ist gefährlich. Er lähmt den Holzfäller, verwandelt den Scheuch, Prinzessin Betty und den alten Goodwin, der gleichfalls einen Abstecher in die ihm von früher her bekannten Gegenden gemacht hat, in sprechende Kohlköpfe. Zum Glück gibt es da ja aber noch Jessica, die all ihren Mut zusammennimmt. Von einem flüsternden Bäumchen geführt, stellt sie sich tapfer dem Betrüger entgegen.
