Jahrhunderts wurden Emotionen als nebensächlich abgetan
und waren allenfalls im Hausgebrauch gebilligt. Die Frauen waren für die Emotionen,
die Männer für das logische Denken zuständig. Die heutige Erkenntnis allerdings
belehrt uns eines besseren. Weder sind Gefühle typisch weiblich, noch ist rationales
Denken typisch männlich. Gefühle sind keineswegs Störfaktoren im Leben eines
Menschen, sondern im Gegenteil, sehr wichtige Vorgänge, die für Lebenserfolg und
Glück von großer Bedeutung sind.
In nur wenigen Jahren ist „Emotionale Intelligenz“ ein absolutes Schlagwort
geworden, der moderne Mensch scheint notorisch unglücklich und unzufrieden zu
sein, was möglicherweise in einem fehlerhaften Gebrauch der Gefühle liegen könnte.
Das Buch EQ - Emotionale Intelligenz von dem amerikanischen Psychologen und
Publizisten Daniel Goleman machte mit seinen Forschungsergebnissen
amerikanischer Psychologen über Emotionen Mitte der 90er Jahre einen Umbruch.
Seine Hauptthese, dass beruflich erfolgreiche Menschen häufig nicht durch Ihren
besonders hohen IQ, sonder EQ so erfolgreich sind, stellte die bisherige Denkweise
auf den Kopf, denn wer seine Gefühle nicht wahrnehmen, verarbeiten und kompetent
mit ihnen umgehen kann, könne auch sein geistiges Potenzial nicht voll
ausschöpfen. Ein hoher IQ-Wert allein stelle somit keine Garantie für Erfolg in Schule
und Beruf dar.
Golemans These ist bis heute nicht einwandfrei zu belegen. Trotzdem ist E.I. eine
feste Bestandsgröße in der Forschung geworden, da der eindeutig machtvolle
Einfluss von Emotionen auf die Handlung von Menschen, auch wenn Sie unlogisch
erscheinen, unbestritten ist.
Entsprechend hat die neue Wertschätzung der sogenannten „weichen“ Kompetenzen
eines Menschen, also die emotionalen, sozialen Kompetenzen, die Perspektiven
vieler verändert. Personalmanager achten nicht länger nur auf fachliche-, sonder
auch auf sozial-, emotionale Kompetenzen, sogenannte Soft Skills, vor allem wenn
es um Jobs mit Führungs- und Personalverantwortung geht.
