Ein Mitarbeiter der KPdSU kehrt 1944 in sein Heimatland Ungarn zurück, um dort an der Regierungsneubildung mitzuarbeiten. Ein ehemaliges Mitglied der Regierung Ungarns wird als Hauptakteur einer „Konterrevolution“ in Ungarn hingerichtet. Was zunächst wie der Lebenslauf von drei völlig verschiedenen Menschen klingen könnte, ist die Biographie von einer Person, Imre Nagy. Seine Politik des „Neuen Kurses“ und seine Reformen sind die Ergebnisse jahrelanger intensiver Beschäftigung mit dem Thema Sozialismus und Kommunismus. Sein Hauptaugenmerk galt von jeher der Agrarpolitik, sowohl in theoretischer, als auch in praktischer Form während seiner Amtszeiten innerhalb der Regierung in den 1950er Jahren. Sein Name ist mit den Ereignissen in Ungarn 1956 eng verbunden und anhand seiner Biografie lässt sich auch die Zeit vor und nach dem Ungarnaufstand untersuchen. In dieser Arbeit werde ich mich zunächst mit der Person Imre Nagys befassen und versuchen seinen politischen Werdegang nachzuzeichnen, wobei eine detaillierte Aufzählung seiner persönlichen und beruflichen Daten den Umfang dieser Arbeit sprengen würde und deswegen nur die ausschlaggebendsten genannt werden. Des Weiteren werde ich mich mit dem Mythos Imre Nagy während und nach dem Aufstand beschäftigen, und einen kurzen Einblick in die Definition der Ereignisse in den Herbstmonaten 1956 in Ungarn geben, denn diese hängen nicht nur von den beteiligten Akteuren und deren Einschätzung, sondern auch von der jeweiligen politischen Gesinnung und deren Umgang mit der Geschichte ab.
